Born in Kazakhstan and raised in Moscow, Katerina now brings her love of painting to the US. Raised in a country steeped in tradition especially when it comes to the arts, think "Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet", or "Surikov State art institute", Katerina discovered her passion less directly, almost by osmosis, as if it were a form she always knew - yet taking her completely by surprise as she created her first painting.
A quiet relationship with art seems to be in Katerina's DNA. As it turns out, often unbeknownst to Katerina, many of her relatives dabbled in the arts, all untrained, all later in life, some even teaching art now in universities. Katerina found out that her grandfather, whom she never met, was a painter, and the list goes on.
Katerina's style ranges from minimalist to abstract to pop. "I really love to mix materials, techniques, and tools. For instance, in a small watercolor portrait, I will also use pencil, marker, and paint, so I guess it's not really a watercolor anymore."
Besides portraits of children and pets, Katerina specializes in large pieces that can center any space. She has also been working on a series of paintings for kids' rooms, bright and sweet and fun, "So a child can have his or her own original piece of art to look at and understand that someone painted that Llama or Giraffe or Elephant just for them!"
Some of Katerina's work has appeared and been sold at charity auctions. She also works directly with businesses and interior designers to create custom art for specific venues and environments.
